Prevention of HIV and STBBI
NCCID has an HIV/STBBI Prevention initiative aimed at responding to the recognized need for a more strategic, coordinated approach to HIV/STBBI prevention in Canada. This will be achieved through the translation of HIV/STBBI prevention knowledge between researchers, policy-makers and practitioners. Our current activities to reinvigorate HIV prevention includes:
- Partner Notification Project - This ongoing partner notification project will amalgamate various activities related to partner notification that have a specific communicable disease focus, emphasize the commonalities in the practice of partner notification and then address challenges specific to each included communicable disease.
- Guide for Planning Outreach to Vulnerable Populations - The Outreach Planning Guide focuses on the challenges of planning and managing an outreach program to help deliver information, services and referrals to populations that practitioners often have difficulty reaching, especially those vulnerable to HIV and other sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBBI).
- Evidence Review Documents - The synthesis papers in this section integrate the knowledge on a specific HIV-related topic from different spheres.
Past Activities
- HIV/STI Knowledge Synthesis and Exchange Forums – brought together researchers, policy makers, public health program managers, and practitioners to facilitate the synthesis and exchange of HIV/STBBI prevention knowledge. Two forums were held in 2008, in February (Building and exchanging knowledge for reaching vulnerable populations) and in March (Increasing the impact of HIV and STBBI Prevention). As a follow-up to the HIV/STI Knowledge Synthesis and Exchange Forum, NCCID hosted a follow-up Forum in 2009 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
