Publications

A key activity of NCCID is the synthesis of knowledge for the use of public health practitioners and policy makers. In this section, you will find the latest NCCID documents, including evidence reviews, reports on NCCID activities and background pieces.

Evidence Reviews

Purple Paper

The Purple Paper began as the NCCID’s pandemic H1N1 weekly literature synthesis in 2009 and it has since grown to cover other infectious disease topics in public health.

Antimicrobial Resistance Comprehensive Reviews

With the assistance of an expert advisory group, NCCID is working on a number of projects to help reduce the burden of community-acquired antimicrobial resistance. One of these projects involved support for the development of comprehensive reviews that described population-level interventions to reduce the development and transmission of caAMR.

Population-level interventions to reduce the development and transmission of community-associated antimicrobial resistance: A perspective from the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases

Canadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology Vol 21 No 3 Autumn 2010
Although the ultimate impact of antimicrobial resistance in the community is still uncertain, reducing the development and limiting the spread of resistant organisms should be a public health priority. The two most urgent proven strategies to effect this goal are to limit antimicrobial use to prevent selective pressure, and to enhance infection prevention and control practices, including basic hand hygiene, to prevent clonal dissemination.

HIV Prevention

The following reviews provide the evidence currently available on HIV prevention with an emphasis on Canadian data where possible. We would value any comments or advice regarding the content or suggestions for additional topic areas.

Environmental Scan

The aim of the environmental scan was to determine the information needs of public health practitioners regarding emerging and re-emerging infections as well as preferred methods of eliciting information. Topics include sources of information used by practitioners, infectious diseases of concern and the role of NCCID.

Foresight Exercise on Infectious Disease in Canada

This project looked ahead at future conditions and trends in infectious disease of concern to the public health community drawing on the opinions of experts from across Canada. The exercise identified areas and issues where gaps in research exist or where the emphasis may need to change to adequately respond to infectious diseases. A number of "wild cards" that could significantly affect public health were also identified. The report includes the findings from the survey and recommendations made.

NCCID Knowledge Translation Concept Note

The purpose of this brief note is to convey the current conceptual thinking and proposed knowledge translation process of the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCCID).
